Life can be confusing enough for adults, even more so for children. When they feel life is out of their control, unable to understand why things have happened they often can’t go back to their roots, to the way things used to be. Bereavement, family breakdown, illness, bullying and abuse all have major effects on young lives. Not wanting to hurt or upset other family members they often keep quiet, bottling up their emotions; anger, pain and rejection.
However, it can’t all stay bottled up forever. Sooner or later those emotions will overflow and start to impact those around them. This is when the need for counselling becomes evident.
Using a variety of creative and play-based activities I have been helping children successful explore the things that bother them, bringing them out so that we can deal with them in a safe and relaxed environment. The change that takes place in the child and their demeanour can be quite remarkable.
